The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was created in the aftermath of 9/11 to improve transportation security without significantly impacting the flow of commerce. “Within a year, TSA assumed responsibility for security at the nation’s airports and deployed a federal workforce to screen all commercial airline passengers and baggage.”
NTELX began supporting TSA’s efforts to employ a risk-based strategy to inspect cargo traveling on board passenger aircraft in 2006 through its Freight Assessment System.
In 2008, Congress mandated that TSA institute a 100% screening program for cargo transported on passenger aircraft. TSA’s response was to develop a program where it required the air cargo industry to perform the screening and to report to TSA monthly screening results. In response, NTELX provided TSA a Cargo Reporting Tool, a module of FAS.
